The five differences
1. What the fabric actually is
Vuori Kore Short: shell of 48% recycled polyester, 42% polyester, 10% elastane. The lined version adds a liner of 94% polyester, 6% elastane. Every layer is plastic.
Wayve Quad Short: shell of 100% organic cotton, 290GSM brushed terry. Liner of 100% merino wool, 165GSM jersey knit. No synthetic in either fabric.
This is the whole comparison, and everything below follows from it.
2. Where the performance comes from
Both shorts handle odor and moisture. They do it differently.
Vuori's comes from engineered synthetic fiber and the finishes applied to it. Wayve's comes from merino wool, which resists odor, regulates temperature and stretches as properties of the fiber. Nothing is applied.
That's not a moral point, it's a practical one: a finish is a coating with a lifespan, and fiber properties don't wash out.
3. Microplastics and end of life
Synthetic fabric sheds microplastic fibers during wear and washing. Recycled polyester sheds identically to virgin polyester — recycling changes where the plastic came from, not what it does in your machine.
Natural fibers don't shed plastic because there isn't any. Organic cotton and merino wool are cellulose and protein fibers and biodegrade at end of life; a polyester and elastane short fragments into smaller pieces of the same plastic instead.
4. Certification and dyes
Vuori publishes no GOTS or OEKO-TEX certification on its main lines, so there's no public answer to what's used in its dyeing and finishing.
Wayve is made with GOTS-certified organic cotton and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 low-impact dyes. GOTS prohibits azo dyes that release carcinogenic amines, formaldehyde, chlorine bleach and heavy metals as chemical inputs at every processing stage. Since 1 January 2024, Standard 100 has also carried a general ban on PFAS, assessed by total fluorine to a 100 mg/kg limit — meaning certified fabric has already been third-party tested for it.
5. Price and construction
Roughly the same money. The Kore Short runs about $68–$78; the Quad Short is $90.
For that you get a 4" shell over a 6" liner, zip side pockets, and cotton drawstrings, tags and care labels rather than the printed polyester label almost every brand uses.

The verdict
Buy Vuori if you want the softest possible hand-feel at the lowest price, you don't mind synthetics, and you like the fit. It's genuinely well-made and it's cheaper. That's a real advantage and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
Buy Wayve if you'd rather the thing against your skin for two hours a day not be plastic — and you want odor resistance that comes from the fiber instead of a treatment.
If synthetic fabric doesn't bother you, Vuori is a good product at a good price. If it does, there's no version of Vuori that solves it, because the fabric is the product.
