The Basketball Short, Rebuilt in Cotton

Inspired by AND1, the AND-W Short pays homage to early 2000's basketball culture. Same style, colors, and silhouette that we grew up with, upgraded with natural materials. The AND-W Short is made from a midweight organic cotton french terry fabric.

Street Dry French Terry

A midweight french terry: smooth face, looped interior, enough structure to hold its shape through a full run. Cotton moves air instead of trapping it, and it softens every time you wash it. Over time it will develop a beautiful sun fade that makes each short unique.

Cut for the Court

An 8" inseam that sits right at the knee, unlined so nothing bunches or rides, and two deep front pockets. An internal drawstring locks the waist exactly where you want it. No mesh lining, no logo running down the leg. Cut to fit men and women.

Why it matters

From your shorts to your body

  1. Every workout is a small burn test

Heat and friction are what break synthetic fabric down. A workout does both, which means microplastic shedding.

The study Polyester clothes shed about as many microfibers into the air while worn as they do in the wash. De Falco et al. · Environmental Science & Technology · 2020
  2. Your Skin Absorbs It All

Your skin is like a sponge and pulls chemicals out of fabric. The skin your shorts cover is the most absorbent on your body.

The study The groin absorbed 11.8× more than the forearm, the highest of any area tested. Maibach et al. · Archives of Environmental Health · 1971
  3. It's Already Happening

Microplastics have been found in human blood and in testicles. BPA and phthalates are endocrine disruptors that interfere with hormones like testosterone.

The study Microplastics were found in every human testis sample tested. Hu et al. · Toxicological Sciences · 2024

FAQ

Organic cotton is cotton grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or GMOs. It’s farmed in healthier soil, uses far less water than conventional cotton, and produces a fiber that’s softer, stronger, and cleaner against your skin.

We use GOTS-certified organic cotton on most garments, which ensures the entire process from seed to dye house meets strict environmental and safety standards.

We use OEKO-TEX certified low-impact dyes on all organic cotton and merino fabrics. These dyes are free from harmful chemicals, heavy metals, and known irritants, making them safer for your skin and the environment.

Yes! It’s one of the benefits of natural fiber clothing, as natural fibers are hypoallergenic. Our fabrics are 100% natural and free from polyester, nylon, spandex, and chemical performance coatings, making them much gentler on sensitive skin.

If you’re avoiding petrochemicals, endocrine disruptors, or microplastics, Wayve is aligned with that lifestyle.

Absolutely. Our clothing is designed for movement of all sorts and we carefully select fibers that will withstand these types of activities. Organic cotton and merino wool both perform exceptionally well during movement, and unlike synthetics, they don’t get swampy, shiny, or plasticky as you heat up.

Organic cotton gives a sturdy, natural feel. It’s soft, breathable, and offers a slight stretch.

Merino wool is also quite soft, and actually works to regulate your temperature.

Merino wool is stretchy, but it doesn’t “snap” back like spandex does. It will mold to your body without irritation or that plasticky cling that you get with synthetic fibers.

Our organic cotton pieces may shrink slightly (within 3–5%) on the first wash if dried with heat.

Merino pieces have natural elasticity and return to shape easily when washed, but avoid high heat to preserve the fiber.

For best results, wash cold and hang dry. Your pieces will hold shape, color, and feel for years.

It’s simple:

  • wash cold
  • use gentle, natural detergent
  • avoid fabric softeners
  • hang dry to preserve shape and fiber integrity, or tumble dry on low heat

Natural fibers don’t need the same chemical care routine synthetics do. Treat them gently and they’ll last a lifetime.
